Brittney's 4th grade Field Trip

The whole class ready to eat

Making candles

Brittney's class visited the Stuhr museum for their field trip this year. They learned what it was like back in the "old" days and what they had to do to keep warm, eat, etc. They started out by bringing in the water and the wood for the stove. They then started making dinner where they had to peel the potatoes and carrots and cut the ham for the stew. They got all the done and the put in the stew to start cooking on the stove. They then shucked the corn and ground the corn and added all the ingredients for cornbread. They also had to churn the butter which they found out takes a long time. Finally everything was cooked and it was time to eat and they were able to eat the food that they had prepared. They also had to wash all the dishes by hand in a metal tub. They found out that it took a long time to make dinner back then and I think are very thankful for our modern conveniences. They also were able to dip wicks in to wax to make candles. A fun day was had by all.
